History and Social Sciences

"Let us tenderly and kindly cherish...the means of knowledge. Let us dare to read, think, speak, and write."  - John Adams

Department Philosophy

The goal of the department of history & social sciences is to equip students with the intellectual framework to analyze and evaluate information that will help them understand the historical forces that have shaped our world. The primary objective, therefore is to develop historical thinking skills and habits of mind that will allow them to analyze primary and secondary sources, to read and write with greater fluency, to be reflective of their learning, and to make ethical and informed decisions to questions of historical importance.  In doing so, students will acquire a greater understanding of our past, appreciate the efforts of individuals in history, develop a respect for other societies, and grapple with the complexities of a rapidly changing and increasingly interdependent world.
